In the Superbike World Championship, the title was decided in the penultimate race. A second place was enough for the Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu to win the title in Jerez on Saturday.
Toprak Razgatlioglu secured the World Championship title in this category for the second time since 2021.
Italian Nicolo Bulega, who won in Jerez, only had a theoretical chance of catching his Turkish rival at the finish line before this weekend, as he traveled to southern Spain with a 46-point deficit. Nevertheless, it is remarkable that the 25-year-old was able to compete for the title for so long in his first season on the WSBK circuit.
With his triumph, the 28-year-old Razgatlioglu goes down in history as the first rider to win the world title on a BMW machine.
In his third outing since his comeback, Dominique Aegerter finished 9th. A week ago, the 34-year-old from Oberaargau, who recently extended his contract with Yamaha by a year, returned to the race track in Estoril with 13th and 14th place after having to take six weeks off due to broken ribs and a shoulder injury.
The season comes to an end on Sunday with the second race in Jerez.
