On Saturday, leaders Barcelona had averted losing a point against Celta Vigo in extremis when Raphinha completed the Catalans' comeback from 1-3 down to 4-3 with a penalty in the 98th minute. Rivals Real Madrid also kept their fans at the Santiago Bernabeu against Athletic Bilbao on Easter Sunday waiting until stoppage time before they could celebrate.

Federico Valverde scored in the 93rd minute with a spectacular volley to give Real a well-deserved 1-0 lead, after a goal by Vinicius had been disallowed less than a quarter of an hour earlier because Endrick had been in an offside position.

Thanks to the late goal, Carlo Ancelotti's side stay in touch with Barcelona and maintain their four-point lead. There are still six games left in the Spanish league.
