Real Madrid concede their second defeat in the Spanish championship. The 2-0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo leaves Xabi Alonso's team four points behind leaders FC Barcelona after 16 games.

Swede Williot Swedberg scored both goals in the Galicians' coup at the Santiago Bernabeu. After going 1-0 down in the 53rd minute, Real Madrid made it harder for themselves to catch up: a good ten minutes later, full-back Fran Garcia was cautioned in two consecutive actions and sent off. Garcia's team-mate Alvaro Carreras was sent off even quicker in stoppage time. He was yellow-carded twice in the space of a few seconds for complaining. Shortly afterwards, Swedberg scored the 2:0.

The already loud criticism of coach Xabi Alonso, who joined Real Madrid from Leverkusen in the summer, will increase once again after another disappointing performance by his star ensemble. The Madrilenians' next opportunity to reverse the trend will come against Manchester City at home in the Champions League on Wednesday.
