PROMOTION AND RELEGATION ROUND. Thun celebrated an important victory in the fight against relegation on Sunday. Thanks to goals from Céline Schmid and Simona Stefanova, the Bernese Oberland side won their second clash away from home against promotion hopefuls Yverdon 2-0, moving past the Vaud side, who are now level on points, into second place. At the start of the promotion/relegation round, Thun had lost 4-2 at home to Yverdon. Both teams still have to play Lucerne and Sion, who are without points, in the remaining rounds.
Swiss women in foreign leagues
GERMANY I. Géraldine Reuteler and Svenja Fölmli shone once again as goalscorers in their last game for Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg respectively. Reuteler, who was named "MVP of the Year" at the Swiss Sports Awards in March, scored the final goal in the 55th minute of Eintracht's 4-2 win over Union Berlin, while Fölmli scored a late 1-1 draw for Freiburg in Essen after coming on as a substitute. Frankfurt qualified for the Europa League in third place. Reuteler will leave the club after six years, according to unconfirmed rumors to England (Arsenal).
GERMANY II. Lydia Andrade was also among the goalscorers in the last round of the Bundesliga. The 27-year-old made it 2-0 in Cologne's 3-0 win at relegated Carl Zeiss Jena, continuing her scoring run. The former FCZ striker has scored all four of her league goals this season in the last four games. Thanks to three wins at the end, Cologne finished the season in 7th place.
GERMANY III: For SGS Essen with Ella Touon, the 1-1 draw against Freiburg on the final matchday was not enough to keep them in the league. Relegation would have been certain even if Touon had not equalized for Freiburg in the 86th minute.
SPAIN. Sidney Schertenleib is still on course for the treble with FC Barcelona. After winning the league title, the club with the Swiss striker hopeful also won the cup on Saturday with a 3:1 victory in the final against Atlético Madrid. The 19-year-old Schertenleib, who has scored seven times in 26 league games in her second year with the Spanish giants, came on as a substitute in the 86th minute. The final result had already been decided by then. Barcelona will face record winners Olympique Lyon in the Champions League final next Saturday in Oslo.
Netherlands. Riola Xhemaili narrowly missed out on winning the cup and thus the double with Eindhoven. Eindhoven lost the final in Rotterdam against dethroned champions Twente Enschede 3:4 on penalties. The score was 2:2 after 90 and 120 minutes. Eindhoven led 2:0 until the 84th minute in their fifth cup final in six years before the second title slipped away. Xhemaili provided the assist for the second goal by double scorer Liz Rijsbergen.
