After nine games without defeat, the Grasshoppers suffered a bitter home defeat. Servette came away with a lucky 2-1 win thanks to a double strike in the final quarter of an hour.
Not only was a continuation of the positive run under coach Tomas Oral within reach, but also victory after four draws in a row. However, luck was not on the side of Zurich, who dropped back to the barrage place as a result of the defeat.
Almost out of nowhere, Servette managed to turn the game around from 0:1 to 2:1 through Miroslav Stevanovic (76') and Steve Rouiller (79'). Stevanovic scored from an acute angle, while defender Rouiller headed a free kick over the crossbar and into the goal. Servette had previously shown themselves to be harmless in attack despite an improved performance after the break.
The record champions had enough scoring chances in the first half to decide the game. Nestory Irankunda was almost always the focal point. The 19-year-old Australian international, who joined GC on loan from Bayern Munich, hit the crossbar with a header and was denied by Servette goalkeeper Joël Mall, who reacted brilliantly, even before he took the penalty that Tsiy Ndenge converted in the 28th minute to make it 1-0.
