Sion celebrate their first win in their sixth game after the winter break. The Valais side defeated FC Zurich 2:1 at home in the Tourbillon.
Mouhcine Bouriga and Anton Miranchuk, two players who have hardly been among the goalscorers this season, were responsible for the first success of the year. Bouriga was in the Valais starting line-up for the first time ever and thanked them with the opening goal in the 18th minute. FCZ goalkeeper Yanick Brecher was still on the ball when the Moroccan took the direct shot, but was unable to prevent the goal.
Brecher was also unlucky with the second goal. After he had initially blocked a header, Miranchuk was on hand. It was the Russian's second goal of the season.
In the meantime, Juan Perea had equalized for the visitors. The Colombian, who scored his seventh goal of the season, thanked Steven Zuber for his good preparatory work. The beautiful move was of no avail, however, as FCZ were unable to find a way past the Sion defense in the second half.
After four defeats in five matches, it was Sion's first win against Zurich since August 2022. Thanks to this rare success, the two teams in eighth (Zurich) and ninth place are now separated by just three points.
