The start of the sledging World Cup from December 5 to 7 cannot take place as planned in Igls, Austria.
The lower part of the ice channel, which was rebuilt at a cost of 30 million euros, was not approved by the International Sledging Federation FIL due to technical faults.
This was announced by the world federation after the track did not fully meet the FIL's technical requirements despite intensive reworking over the past few days. The season opener will now take place in Winterberg, Germany. Unlike the luge athletes, the bobsleigh and skeleton athletes will be allowed to compete in their World Cup opener from November 28 to 30 in Igls.
Last week, the bobsleigh and skeleton athletes also classified the risk of falls and injuries as too high. In detail, this concerns curves 13 and 14, but adjustments implemented and approved by the track designer and Olympiaworld Innsbruck have enabled homologation for these disciplines by the International Bobsleigh Federation (IBSF). Four-man bobsleigh test runs will take place at the beginning of next week.
