Fanny Smith is approaching the Olympic season with caution. As the Vaud native admits before the Ski Cross World Cup in Arosa, an injury is currently still limiting her and she is behind schedule.

"I'm happy with the start of the season and my condition. But I also know where I still need to catch up. I hope to be at one hundred percent by February," said Smith on Monday after finishing third and fifth in the season opener in Val Thorens a few days ago.

The two-time Olympic medal winner suffered an unspecified injury to her leg in the summer. She had to adjust her usual program somewhat and was later in the schedule than usual, Smith explained. According to the 33-year-old, caution is advised when it comes to the load. As Swiss head coach Enrico Vetsch explained, the injury is not serious, but it does limit Smith's speed somewhat.

In contrast to Jonas Lenherr and Romain Détraz, Smith will be competing in Arosa. Lenherr, who missed the whole of last season due to a foot injury and made his comeback in Val Thorens, is out with an abdominal muscle strain. Détraz injured his left knee in Val Thorens. Examinations in Switzerland revealed a slight bone bruise and a slight meniscus injury.

Talina Gantenbein will not be at full strength for the home World Cup. The 27-year-old from the Engadine was already struggling with a persistent virus in Val Thorens and on the preparation days before that in St. Moritz.

The knockout runs of the sprint race in Arosa are on the program on Tuesday evening (from 5.30 pm).
