The Swiss team misses out on a place on the podium in the team competition at the European Show Jumping Championships in La Coruña. They finished 5th behind the victorious Belgium.
A better ranking would have been possible if the team manager Peter van der Waaij had not declared Janika Sprunger as number 5 at the start of the championships - hindsight is always wiser. The rider from Basel in the saddle on Orelie, whose results only count for the individual classification, delivered a penalty-free round, as she did on Thursday. Nadja Peter Steiner in the saddle on Mila also delivered another flawless ride.
The two women are therefore well in the running in the individual classification. This also applies to Steve Guerdat, who once again remained penalty-free with Iashin Sitte. Guerdat (1.19 penalty points), who is defending his European Championship title, is in 3rd place in the individual classification, Nadja Peter Steiner (2.11) is in 6th place and Janika Sprunger (2.41) will start Sunday from 9th position with two rounds.
Martin Fuchs on Conner Jei and Géraldine Straumann with Long Johns Silver each had to accept one knockdown on Friday. Géraldine Straumann in 69th place and Fuchs in 76th place will have to watch on Sunday.
Belgium won the team classification ahead of Great Britain and Germany. Ahead of Guerdat in the individual classification are the German Richard Vogel (United Touch) and the Brit Scott Brash (Hello Folie).
