FCZ coach Ricardo Moniz made the winning substitution in the 70th minute. The Dutchman sent his compatriot Jahnoah Markelo and the newly signed French world champion Benjamin Mendy onto the pitch. The whistles against Mendy, whose signing has divided the fans in Zurich, had barely died down when the full-back delivered his first assist to Markelo. The latter scored his first goal for FCZ from the edge of the box.

While Mendy received a skeptical or even hostile reception from the supporters due to the rape allegations, returnee Antonio Marchesano received much applause despite now wearing the Yverdon jersey. He scored a penalty in the 58th minute to draw the Vaud team level at 1-1.

Zurich, who had taken an early lead through Steven Zuber, were able to respond to the setback. Zurich, who were clearly superior in terms of play, were somewhat more consistent in their search for a goal after the 1-1 draw. The victory is also worth its weight in gold in view of Thursday's Cup quarter-final against Young Boys, even if FCZ were far from convincing. Goalkeeper Yanick Brecher had to intervene decisively several times.
