From November 14 to 23, 48 women's and 48 men's teams will compete for the World Beach Volleyball Championship title in Adelaide. Five teams have qualified for Switzerland - surprisingly, three men's duos.
After two recent world championships without Swiss men's participation, Switzerland is now making a comeback on the big stage. Marco Krattiger/Leo Dillier, Adrian Heidrich/Jonathan Jordan and Yves Haussener/Julian Friedli will represent Switzerland in Australia. For Sebastian Beck, Head of Competitive Beach Volleyball, this is a clear signal: "The fact that we have three men's teams at the World Championships shows that we have made significant progress."
Particularly explosive: Krattiger/Dillier and Heidrich/Jordan meet in the very first group match. In the same group, the Norwegian duo Mol/Sörum, the world number 1 and 2025 European champions, are a real heavyweight in the sport. Haussener/Friedli, meanwhile, will have to assert themselves against teams from Qatar, Austria and Cuba. National coach Philip Gabathuler is optimistic: "All three teams have the potential to make it through the group stage."
However, Switzerland's greatest medal hopes rest on the sister duo Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré. In their first season together, the Bernese pair have impressively demonstrated that they can compete with the best teams in the world. This raises hopes that a Swiss women's duo will win a World Championship medal for the first time ever.
There was some bad news for the second women's team: the experienced Tanja Hüberli is out after a foot operation. Her partner Leona Kernen now forms a new and familiar team with Annique Niederhauser. The two young hopefuls won silver at the U21 World Championships in 2023 and are now competing together at an elite World Championships for the first time.
