Thun had to settle for a goalless draw at Etoile Carouge to open the 26th round of the Challenge League. This gives Aarau the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Thun, who were particularly disappointing offensively in the first half, had the best chance to score in the 82nd minute when defender Jan Bamert's header hit the crossbar. The draw in an evenly-matched game means that the Bernese side remain a comfortable seven points clear of third-placed Etoile Carouge. Geneva are probably the only rivals to Aarau and Thun who could still get involved in the promotion battle.
Normally, Thun and Aarau will decide between themselves who will be directly promoted and who will take part in the barrage, although the form curve in the race for first place clearly favors Aarau. With their tenth win in a row - on Sunday in Wil - they would put three points between themselves and FC Thun.
