Ukraine is the second team to be promoted to the Ice Hockey A-World Championship. The Eastern Europeans won 3:1 against Japan in the final round of the Division I tournament in Sosnowiec and secured 2nd place.

Ukraine benefited from the fact that hosts Poland lost their final games against Lithuania and France against Kazakhstan, who had already been promoted. The French team, featuring National League players Antoine Keller, Enzo Guebey, Thomas Thiry, Kevin Bozon, Floran Douay and Jordann Bougro, thus missed out on immediate promotion.

Ukraine will be back in the elite for the first time in twenty years at the next A World Cup in Germany.
