Lindsey Vonn injured her left knee in her crash in the aborted World Cup downhill in Crans-Montana. This was announced by the American federation without giving further details.
Vonn herself was combative. "My Olympic dream is not over yet," the 41-year-old American wrote on Instagram. If there's one thing she can do, it's make comebacks, said the record World Cup downhill winner. Almost six years after her retirement in February 2019, she returned to the World Cup last season.
After her fall, Vonn skied to the finish without assistance, but looked visibly marked. She was then flown to hospital by helicopter. "I am discussing the situation with my doctors and my team and will have further examinations carried out," said the 84-time World Cup winner early on Friday evening.
As the leader of the downhill World Cup rankings, Vonn would have a good chance of winning her second Olympic gold after Vancouver 2010 at the Olympic downhill in Cortina in a week's time.
