Predazzo will be the stage for ski jumping at the Winter Games and probably the big stage for the Slovenian Prevc siblings. The Swiss quartet is currently several meters behind the leaders.

Domen Prevc and his sister Nika are dominating the winter with a clarity that is rare in ski jumping. He won nine of the last 13 World Cup competitions up to January 25, won the Four Hills Tournament and was crowned Ski Flying World Champion outside of the World Cup. She celebrated 13 victories in 22 events, also won the tour and only missed the podium four times.

In Predazzo, it's not the season so far that will decide, but the moment. However, there is a good chance that the Prevc family will clear the hill: men's and women's competitions on both the large and small hill, mixed jumping and the new men's super team format theoretically open up ten opportunities for Prevc's name to be at the top and for the Slovenian national anthem to ring out.

Competition from Japan and Austria

Japan is the first challenger. Olympic champion Ryoyu Kobayashi once again appears to be ready for a major event. As World Cup runner-up, he is still ahead of up-and-comer Ren Nikaido. In the women's event, Nozomi Maruyama, who started the season with three wins, is hoping to regain her top form. She is followed by Austria, who hold more trump cards than Germany or Norway.

It is not appropriate to talk about possible podium places for the Swiss team. Only Gregor Deschwanden has the potential, but the veteran from Horw is not getting up to speed this winter. In 24th place in the intermediate World Cup rankings, he will probably have to concentrate on a personal best at his fourth Olympic Games. 14th place on the large hill in Sochi 2014 remains the highlight among the five rings so far.

The Olympic dream comes true for a trio

Sandro Hauswirth, who has blossomed since the Four Hills Tournament, as well as Felix Trunz and Sina Arnet will accompany Deschwanden to Val di Fiemme. For the trio, participation is already an Olympic dream come true. Swiss Olympic's selection criteria were set high for their potential at the start of the season, an ambitious goal that they have now fulfilled without discussion.

The men's team is once again more diversified. Initially, seven jumpers were hoping for one of the three tickets. In the end, the battle for the last ticket came down to a duel between Trunz and Simon Ammann, which ended in favor of the 19-year-old.

Sina Arnet is currently flying solo in the women's event. According to the selection concept, Swiss-Ski could have applied for a second woman for the mixed competition if three individual limits had been met, but this option was not taken up. At the moment, no second Swiss woman is worthy of the Olympics.
