While Young Boys go down 6-2 against Grasshoppers, FC Basel win 2-1 in Lucerne and Lugano beat FCZ thanks to a last-minute goal.
It was a wild game for the spectators at the Wankdorf on Wednesday evening. Eight goals were scored in the match between Young Boys and GC - YB goalkeeper Marvin Keller was beaten six times.
Goals had already been scored in the first leg at the end of October. The two clubs drew 3-3 at the Letzigrund in Zurich. Now GC, which is currently in the bottom third of the table, managed to win in a turbulent match.
After a high-scoring first half, in which GC built up a 3:1 lead, Gerardo Seoane's team got off to a good start in the second 45 minutes. YB became much stronger and scored the equalizer in the 60th minute thanks to Chris Bedia, before Marvin Keller even saved a penalty from Lovro Zvonarek.
However, the momentum did not swing in the Bernese side's favor. Instead, they literally fell apart in the final 15 minutes. Luke Plange made it 4:2 - YB player Rayan Raveloson was sent off for an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the goal.
The 23-year-old Englishman, who had already scored once before the break, then scored twice more to make the final score 6:2.
Basel win in Lucerne
Both the hosts and FC Basel were in desperate need of a win in Lucerne. In the end, it was Basel who secured three points.
After a goalless first half in which both teams played offensively and Xherdan Shaqiri missed his third consecutive penalty, Basel finally took the lead thanks to Moritz Broschinski (49').
But it did not last long, as Julian von Moos equalized for Lucerne just five minutes later. The second Basel penalty, no longer scored by Shaqiri but by Koba Koindredi, made it 2:1 for FCB. It stayed that way, and thanks to the win, Basel moved up to 3rd place in the table.
Zurich and Lugano play out a draw
After Lugano had won 4-2 against Servette at the weekend, the Ticino side celebrated their next victory at the Letzigrund in Zurich. After a mixed half, which took place mostly in midfield, Matthias Phaëton had the best chance to score for FC Zurich - but the Guadeloupe international only hit the post.
Kevin Behrens then scored the only goal of the game for Lugano in the 91st minute, earning the Ticino side three points.
