For only the second time, FC St. Gallen started a Super League season with three wins. Young Alessandro Vogt shone in the 5-0 home win against FC Winterthur.
He completes his apprenticeship as a bricklayer, signs his first professional contract with FCSG and jumps to the top of the goalscoring charts: Alessandro Vogt's last few months have offered a number of highlights. After making his debut in the Super League last May, the 20-year-old striker is finding his feet at the highest level at a record pace this season. In just over 180 minutes of action, he has scored three goals, the last two on Saturday evening against FC Winterthur.
After exactly seven minutes, Vogt scored the first with a smart shot from a turn, and shortly before the break he doubled the lead with a volley to make it 3-0. In between, he set up the second St. Gallen goal from new signing Carlo Boukhalfa. Together with fellow striker Willem Geubbels, he led the scoring charts after the game. Another goal from Vogt was prevented by the post after the break.
What FC St. Gallen showed was promising. The eastern Swiss side created many scoring chances against FC Winterthur, often thanks to strong pressing and winning the ball in the opponent's half. After the substitutions of Geubbels, Vogt and Lukas Görtler, the scoring continued. The substitutes, 22-year-old Aliou Balde and 19-year-old Corin Konietzke, scored to make it 4:0 and 5:0. Coach Enrico Maassen's team can also expect Christian Witzig, who had been injured, to return soon.
While Winterthur, who had a shot hit the post and crossbar within a few seconds shortly after the break, are still without a win, St. Gallen can set a club record at home against Lucerne the weekend after next - the first cup round against Walenstadt is on the program next Saturday. Grün-Weiss have never won their first four Super League games of the season.
