EV Zug celebrates its fourth win in a row. Coach Dan Tangnes' team wins 3-2 after overtime at Ambri-Piotta after trailing 2-0.
Ambri-Piotta's ninth home game of the season went to overtime for the sixth time. For the second time, the visitors took the extra point. Sven Senteler scored the decisive goal 43.8 seconds before the end of overtime, which meant Ambri lost for the fifth time in the last six games.
The Leventines got off to a much better start to the game, initially applying a lot of pressure and taking a more than deserved 2:0 lead through Tommaso De Luca (5th) and a powerplay goal from Jesse Virtanen (12th). EVZ then got into the game better midway through the second period and the logical consequence was the 1-2 by Jan Kovar (38'), who also scored in overtime.
In the 45th minute, Zug equalized through Daniel Vozenilek to make it 2:2. The Czech world champion scored a goal for the tenth game in a row, which means he now holds the club record alone. Previously he shared it with former champion striker Bill McDougall, who scored in nine consecutive games in 1997. The national record belongs to former Davos champion Lance Nethery, who scored in 14 games in a row.
Chris DiDomenico made his first appearance for Ambri-Piotta. The Canadian was no longer happy at Fribourg-Gottéron and was allowed to move to the Leventina in exchange for Jakob Lilja. The 35-year-old was an asset, especially in Ambri's good phase, and was credited with an assist for the 1:0. In the end, however, Zug prevailed for the ninth time in the last ten games in Ambri.
