A direct free kick from Messi in the 54th minute gave Miami the win. Just seven minutes earlier, the Venezuelan Telasco Segovia had equalized for the team from Florida to make it 1-1, punishing Porto for being too hesitant after taking the lead early on. Spaniard Samu had made it 1-0 for the Portuguese side with a penalty in the 8th minute.

Like Inter Miami, Palmeiras from São Paulo are also on four points in Group A after two games. The Brazilians won 2-0 against Egypt's Al-Ahly. In the final group match, Palmeiras and Inter Miami will only need a draw in the direct duel to advance to the knockout round.

Another interruption due to thunderstorms

Palmeiras' victory over Al-Ahli in East Rutherford was interrupted for almost an hour. Due to the threat of a thunderstorm, the players and spectators had to leave the stadium during the second half when the score was 2-0.

The storm passed by the arena, which will host next year's World Cup final. After around 50 minutes, the game was able to resume. The match between Salzburg and Pachuca had already been interrupted for 99 minutes the day before due to a thunderstorm.
