Marc Lüthi has the feeling it's "time to say goodbye"

Lüthi announced his resignation at the end of April at the SC Bern media conference. The decision to resign came as a result of the intense discussions within the Board of Directors about the direction in which the SCB should move.

"I have come to the conclusion: New and Marc Lüthi, that doesn't go together," says Marc Lüthi. "I was the head of the SCB for 28 years. It was a 'great time'. Of course, there were always negative phases - but I wouldn't want to miss anything." It is now "time to say goodbye".

"Too old!"

A simple calculation made the decision a no-brainer for Lüthi. Lüthi: "When we talk about new developments and innovations, we are talking about a time frame of three to five years or, in (fast-moving) sport, two to four years." Lüthi is now 64 years old. "There's only one conclusion: I'm too old for this next step!"

This time it is the definitive, final retirement. "I will - what's the name at GC? - I'm certainly not going to be the SCB's bird." Lüthi is therefore stepping down from all functions and is also selling his stake in the ice skating club. There is a reason for this logical departure: Marc Lüthi already stepped down as CEO once before in March 2022 following an accident (brain haemorrhage). However, he remained Chairman of the Board of Directors at the time. His successor as CEO was Raeto Raffainer. This change was reversed a year later. "I've known since then," says Lüthi, "half a resignation is not an option."

In the 28-year "Marc Lüthi era", Schlittschuhclub Bern won six championship titles plus two Cup victories with the fan team. The SCB women also won two titles. Lüthi is also not of the opinion that the SCB has missed out on anything in its development. "The only thing we've missed out on is catching up in the table. But even there I think that something is still possible this season."

"I won't be lying under palm trees"

Lüthi's dream farewell includes a seventh championship title in April. And, of course, he wishes his favorite club a "hopefully successful future". He doesn't yet know what Marc Lüthi will be doing from May, but "I won't be lying under palm trees". He will certainly continue to come to the stadium. But he won't be joining another club, because "living for this club with the three letters for 28 years and then doing something similar somewhere else - that's not possible!"

Lüthi's successor is Jürg Fuhrer (53). He has been a member of the SCB Board of Directors since 2024 and was responsible for the Future, Catering and Finance divisions.
