Number of the week 11.9 percent e-cars in Zug

The proportion of electric cars in the canton of Zug is higher than anywhere else in Switzerland. According to new data from the Energie Reporter online platform, Energie Schweiz and Geoimpact, 11.9% of registered vehicles there are purely electric.

The cantons of Zurich and Lucerne are well behind with 7.0% and 5.8% respectively. The lowest figures are recorded in Geneva (3.8%), Jura and Ticino (3.8% each). Across Switzerland, the proportion of e-cars in the vehicle population averages 5.5%.

In terms of newly registered cars, the share of "electric cars" is higher: in the first quarter of 2026, they achieved a market share of 21.5% - although they still lag behind plug-in hybrids and pure petrol cars.
