On Thursday, the Basel district council voted 65 to 1 in favour of increasing the spending authorization for the energy package by just under an additional CHF 12.2 million for the remaining term until 2025. It also approved a supplementary credit of CHF 2.3 million for this funding program.

Parliament decided in 2020 to continue the energy package. The federal funds available for the funding program have been steadily decreasing since 2023. The government therefore requested an increase in the spending authorization and the supplementary credit from Parliament. A separate bill is to follow for the continuation of the program after 2025.
The number of applications has risen sharply since 2019, particularly in the targeted area of building technology and heat pumps in particular, according to the government's proposal. Due to the high demand and the downward trend in available federal funds, the funding program must be prevented from being underfunded.
The Basel Energy Package has been in place since 2010 as a program to promote energy efficiency and renewable energies in the building sector. Partners include the canton, the Chamber of Commerce and the Homeowners' Association.
