More than 700 participants from Valais took part in the parade. The guest canton presented itself in Eastern Switzerland with traditional costumes, yodellers, drummers, flag-wavers and alphorn players and was cheered on by the crowds at the side of the road. The procession from the train station to the exhibition grounds was accompanied by various animals - including cows, sheep, goats and St. Bernard dogs.
The first Saturday of the eleven-day Olma, the Swiss trade fair for agriculture and food, is always dominated by the host canton. Valais presents itself under the motto "Wow Wow Valais". The mountain canton showcases its many facets on the exhibition grounds, such as the diversity of its German and French dialects. Culinary specialties will also be on offer.
After 1969 and 1996, this is the third time that Valais has been a guest canton at the trade fair in Eastern Switzerland.
The 82nd Olma lasts until October 19. The fair is a popular festival with numerous exhibitions on agricultural and social themes.
