In low-lying regions, up to 31 percent of the world's arable land for food crops would be at risk in the event of global warming of 2 degrees. This is the conclusion of a recently published study in the research magazine "Nature Food".

According to the study, climate change is altering the conditions for agricultural land. Higher temperatures are likely to shift cultivation regions and reduce the diversity of food crop production.

The Finnish study, in which a researcher from the University of Zurich was also involved, investigated how climatic changes affect the cultivation of 30 food crop species. These include staple foods such as rice, maize, wheat, potatoes and soybeans. Scenarios of global warming of 1.5 to 4 degrees Celsius were compared.
