A 36-year-old man died on Friday evening after a swimming accident below the weir in Schönenwerd SO. He had got into difficulties while swimming, as the Solothurn cantonal police reported on Saturday.

The rescue operation was triggered shortly after 6.30 p.m. on Friday. Half an hour later, the man was spotted from a helicopter. The swimmer was rescued from the Aare, resuscitated and flown to hospital. He died there a short time later.
