His defense lawyer demanded a conditional prison sentence of 18 months at the Bülach District Court. Her client had fallen into a vicious circle because charter flights were canceled at short notice at the start of his new business. In order to repay his customers, he started selling tickets.
The public prosecutor demanded a conditional prison sentence of 24 months and a fine of CHF 1,500. The accused had earned a regular income of around CHF 10,000 per month by selling tickets. The fact that the 39-year-old immediately admitted everything to the police and tried to repay the money speaks in his favor.
Victims do not believe him
Four of over 50 injured parties also attended the hearing. They did not believe his remorse and accused him of acting. One private claimant said that he visited her at home to sell her tickets.
Many of the injured parties, like the defendant, have roots abroad and apparently heard through friends and relatives that the defendant was selling cheap tickets for flights during the summer vacation.
In his closing statement, the accused again emphasized that he was very sorry about the story. He wanted to pay back the money. Everything had taken its toll on his health.
The court will open the verdict orally on another day.
