The fireworks show organized by the city of Lugano for the 1st of August has been postponed to Saturday. Shortly before the fireworks were due to start at 10.30 pm, a thunderstorm set in.

The fireworks were to be set off from a large raft moored in the lake off Lugano. The wind that arose from 10 p.m., followed by a thunderstorm, prevented the ignition of the installations developed for the national holiday, the city administration announced on Friday evening.

The fireworks for the Ticino town were prepared by a specialist company that organizes fireworks displays throughout Switzerland and abroad, including in China. In response to criticism from environmentalists, the head of the company has patented a biodegradable plastic that has already been adopted by other companies in the industry.
