The SP of the canton of Aargau is supporting the candidate Ruth Müri (Greens) in the election of the five members of government. This was decided unanimously by the delegates on Saturday in Muri AG at the request of the executive, as the party announced.

The 53-year-old member of the cantonal parliament and Baden city councillor Müri wants to win back the seat for the Greens that went to the SVP following the resignation of Green councillor Susanne Hochuli in 2016.

The SP is running with its previous councillor Dieter Egli. The party decided not to put forward its own candidate for the vacant SVP seat.

The seat of Education Director Alex Hürzeler (SVP), who will not be standing again in the re-election in October, will become vacant. National Councillor Martina Bircher will defend the second SVP seat. Health Director Jean-Pierre Gallati (SVP) is seeking re-election.

Two other government councillors are also standing again. These are Finance Director Markus Dieth (center) and Construction Director Stephan Attiger (FDP).

The Green Liberals want to win a government seat for the first time with National Councillor Beat Flach. The EPP will not be taking part. In the first round of voting, the Centre Party is only recommending its government councillor Dieth.

The government council election will take place on October 20. The people will elect the 140 members of parliament at the same time.
