He is accused of attaching a fragmentation hand grenade to the woman's car.

During questioning at the beginning of the trial, the man repeatedly refused to answer questions and referred to the "trial files". He had not wanted to kill his former lover, he said in court. When asked by the presiding judge what he had then intended, the accused gave no answer.

According to the indictment from the Office of the Attorney General of Germany (OAG), the man allegedly planted the hand grenade on his ex-lover's parked car in a residential area in Lörrach, Germany, on January 31, 2024. The woman was able to leave the car unharmed before it caught fire.
