This is the result of the first-ever comparison of cultural and leisure behavior before and after the pandemic by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
The proportion of the population that visited museums, exhibitions, dance or ballet performances fell by 6 percentage points. The decline in visits to concerts and cinemas was 7 percentage points, as the FSO reported on Friday. Monuments, historical sites and libraries kept their audiences stable.
The trend was similar for leisure activities outside the home. Large city festivals such as the Street Parade recorded a decline of 7 percentage points in a pre-corona comparison. Festivals, on the other hand, increased significantly. 52% of the population attended such events in 2024.
