Following the crash of an Air India passenger plane with 242 people on board last week, the authorities have identified the majority of the fatalities. By the afternoon, there had been a match in 202 DNA samples, the Home Minister of the western state of Gujarat announced on Platform X. He did not initially say how many bodies were still awaiting the results of the DNA analysis.

According to reports in the Indian media, at least 270 people died in the crash of the Boeing 787-8 in the city of Ahmedabad last Thursday. The plane crashed into a residential area shortly after take-off and burst into flames. According to the airline, 241 passengers died, one British passenger of Indian origin survived. The plane was on its way to London.
The cause of the accident is still unclear. Investigators hope to gain important insights from the analysis of the two flight recorders, among other things. Both the flight data recorder and the voice recorder, which recorded the conversations in the cockpit, were found at the crash site. The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also investigating in parallel with the Indian air accident investigation. According to reports in the Guardian, British experts are also supporting the accident investigation in India.
