The Swiss apple and pear harvest is likely to be larger this year than in 2023. This forecast was made for the first time using an app supported by artificial intelligence (AI), as the Swiss Fruit Association announced on Monday.

The estimates for the apple harvest amount to 103,589 tons, which is three percent more than the previous year's harvest, according to a statement from the association on Monday. A pear harvest of 16,364 tons is expected, around 17 percent more than the previous year.

The app, which was developed for the first time to estimate the harvest yield, determined the potential by variety and plot, according to the statement. The artificial intelligence used various data sources such as regional weather stations, the Swiss Fruit Association added.

According to the press release, the harvest reaches its peak in mid-September and lasts until the end of October.

The plum harvest, which started in July, is also expected to be "excellent" this year, as the fruit association announced last week.
