Airbus wants to cut up to 2,500 jobs in its struggling defense and aerospace division. The cuts are to take place by mid-2026, the company announced on Wednesday.

Airbus' defense and aerospace division employs almost 35,000 people in Germany and other European countries.

The European group's aerospace division had to record write-downs of 989 million euros in the first half of the year, which had a negative impact on the Airbus Group's interim balance sheet. According to the company, it is in talks with the trade unions.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury referred to the major challenges in the space business when presenting the half-year results and announced: "We are now tackling the roots of the issue."
