Regional public transport includes commuter trains and bus services in conurbations and to the surrounding regions. However, individual cable car and boat connections are also part of it. 2.5 million people travel by public transport every day, the Federal Council wrote in its dispatch to Parliament on Wednesday.
The revenue from ticket and season ticket sales only covers about half of the costs. The uncovered costs are borne by the federal government and the cantons. The almost CHF 3.4 billion that the Federal Council is requesting for the next three years represents an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the last commitment credit.
