According to the organizers, "Sail Amsterdam" is the largest nautical event in the world and takes place every five years. The parade started in the morning in the port of Ijmuiden on the North Sea and continued along the approximately 20-kilometer-long North Sea Canal to Amsterdam.
It is a special tenth edition of "Sail Amsterdam". It took place for the first time 50 years ago, on the occasion of the Dutch capital's 700th birthday. This year's event is particularly big to mark the city's 750th birthday. The organizers are expecting more than two million visitors to the event, which runs until Sunday.
