Another skier has been found unconscious on a ski slope in Valais. The 77-year-old Swiss skier died in Sion hospital on Wednesday after being transported there from Saas-Fee. There was a similar case in Zermatt on the same day.

According to the Valais cantonal police on Friday, third parties found a motionless skier on the ground on the Ritzi ski slope below the Morenia cable car station in Saas-Fee at around 12 noon. They immediately alerted the rescue services.

The piste rescue team, the Valais cantonal rescue organization and an Air Zermatt helicopter went to the scene. After first aid, the 77-year-old Swiss man was flown to hospital in Sion, where he died that evening.

The public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death. The police are also appealing for information from possible witnesses.

Similar case in Zermatt

There was also a similar incident in Zermatt on Wednesday. There, a 25-year-old Argentinian was presumed dead in a skiing accident, as the police reported on Thursday.

He was also found unconscious on a piste. He died in the course of Wednesday afternoon in Sion hospital.
