Apple is gearing up for its best ever Christmas sales thanks to the popularity of the new iPhone models. The company predicted a year-on-year increase in sales of ten to twelve percent for the current quarter.

On average, analysts had only expected an increase of six percent. Apple is also expecting double-digit percentage sales growth and a record quarter for the iPhone. In September, the company upgraded the standard iPhone 17 model, significantly improved the camera on the more expensive Pro version, among other things, and also launched an extremely thin new model called the iPhone Air.

In the last quarter, with only a few weeks of availability of new models, iPhone sales increased by six percent to a good 49 billion dollars. The iPhone remains by far the most important Apple product. The forecast shows that the iPhone business is not suffering as much as some market observers thought because Apple is making slower progress with artificial intelligence applications.

Overall, Group turnover rose by eight percent year-on-year to 102.5 billion dollars in the past quarter. At the bottom line, the Group earned 27.5 billion dollars, 86 percent more than a year ago, thanks in part to a significantly lower tax burden.

Growing additional costs due to Trump's tariffs

As expected, US President Donald Trump's import tariffs had a negative impact of 1.1 billion dollars in the past quarter. For the current quarter, Apple anticipates additional costs of 1.4 billion dollars due to the import duties.

Apple devices are largely built in Asia, for example in China, India and Vietnam. Imports from these countries into the USA have gradually been subject to high tariffs. Apple CEO Tim Cook previously said that around half of the iPhones sold in the US are now supplied from India. Trump and his ministers repeatedly say that they would like to see iPhone production in the USA. However, the supply chains of the entire industry had already shifted to Asia years ago.

Sales in China fall

In the China region, Apple sales fell by 3.6 percent to just under 14.5 billion dollars. Some analysts had expected around two billion dollars more. Apple is increasingly facing competition from domestic rivals in the Chinese market. However, CEO Tim Cook was confident about the Christmas business in China too.

112 billion dollars annual profit

Apple's financial year also came to an end at the end of September. The Group achieved an annual profit of 112 billion dollars - almost a fifth more. Annual turnover increased by six percent to 416 billion dollars. The services business, which includes subscriptions for music streaming, online storage and fitness services, broke the 100 billion dollar mark in annual sales.
