Cantonal elections TI Arbedo-Castione TI repeats elections due to manipulation

In the Ticino municipality of Arbedo-Castione, the municipal elections of April 14 were repeated on Sunday. The reason for the rerun was the invalidation of the elections due to systematic manipulation.

According to information from the Ticino State Chancellery, the FDP was the strongest party in both the legislative and executive bodies of Arbedo-Castione after Sunday's elections.

The elections were based on the same lists with the same candidates as in the mid-April elections.

A cantonal counting office in Arbedo-Castione discovered irregularities in the Ticino municipal elections on April 14. According to information from the Ticino public prosecutor's office, around 50 ballot papers for the executive and some ballot papers for the legislative were affected. The cantonal audit office subsequently declared the elections invalid.

There were also indications of irregularities in the municipal elections in Ascona. A complaint is pending before the Ticino Administrative Court. A hearing of the deputy municipal secretary and two members of the electoral office will take place in court next week.
