The former Soviet republic of Armenia in the South Caucasus recognizes an independent Palestinian state. "The catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the ongoing military conflict are among the most urgent issues on the international political agenda that need to be resolved," said a statement from the Foreign Ministry in Yerevan on Friday.

Armenia has always considered a two-state solution to be the best way out of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. "We are convinced that this is the only way in which both Palestinians and Israelis can realize their legitimate hopes." That is why the Republic of Armenia recognizes the state of Palestine.
Israel reacted indignantly and, according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, summoned the Armenian ambassador to give him a sharp rebuke. In recent weeks, Norway, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia have already recognized a Palestinian state in order to build up pressure for a solution to the decades-old conflict. However, no practical path to a two-state solution is currently visible.
