Several clues indicate that they are the same people who blew up the ATM in the canton of Solothurn before fleeing across the border. This was announced by the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland on Tuesday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. The investigation is continuing under the direction of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland.

The ATM in Breitenbach in the canton of Solothurn was blown up shortly before 4 a.m. on Friday. There were several detonations. The ATM and the surrounding building were destroyed.

The search for the perpetrators, who according to the Solothurn cantonal police fled in a small white car in the direction of Laufen BL, was initially unsuccessful.

Cooperation leads to successful investigation

According to the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland, the success of the investigation was made possible by the rapid exchange of information and the coordinated evaluation of evidence by various authorities.

On the Swiss side, these are the Federal Office of Police (fedpol), the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security and the cantonal police forces of Solothurn and Basel-Landschaft.

The foreign partners are the French Central Office for Combating Migrant Crime, the Dutch police and the criminal investigation department of Luxembourg as well as the Dutch public prosecutor's office, as the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland states.

According to the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland, successful investigations have a preventive character over and above their immediate effect. Thanks in part to arrests, indictments and convictions in connection with explosive attacks on ATMs, the number of attacks in 2025 was roughly halved compared to 2024.
