The perpetrators blew up the ATM on the premises of the Shell petrol station Ganda near Landquart shortly after 1 a.m., as reported by the cantonal police of Graubünden on Friday. The ATM was completely destroyed. The perpetrators stole the cash cassettes containing the cash.
In the large-scale manhunt by the cantonal police forces of Graubünden and St. Gallen and the police of the Principality of Liechtenstein, two men were arrested near Bad Ragaz SG at 01:35. The Zurich Forensic Institute was also deployed.
The Graubünden cantonal police, in cooperation with the Federal Office of Police (Fedpol) and the St. Gallen cantonal police, initially took charge of the investigation under the responsibility of the St. Gallen public prosecutor's office. Later, the lead was handed over to the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland, which is responsible for explosives offenses, the police added.
This year, there has already been one ATM blast at the beginning of April in the canton of Vaud, one each at the end of March in Arni AG and Mörschwil SG and one at the beginning of February in Sevelen SG. According to Fedpol, 25 ATMs were blown up by mid-December 2024. That was more than ever before.
