At least ten patients have died in a fire at a state hospital in eastern India. The fire broke out overnight in an intensive care unit of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in the town of Cuttack, announced the head of the government of the state of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi.

Seven critically ill patients died during their transfer to other wards. Three others later succumbed to their injuries, Majhi said. According to local media reports, several people were injured, some of them seriously. The fire could have broken out as a result of a short circuit. Mahji announced an investigation into the incident.
