The perpetrators used an unknown explosive to blow up the fixed ATM on the Raiffeisenbank building shortly after 3.40 a.m., according to the St. Gallen cantonal police.
The interior of the bank was severely damaged by the detonation. Various small parts of the machine flew outside. The perpetrators then fled on foot in the direction of Fahrnstrasse. There they got into a white car and fled in an unknown direction.
The fire department had to be deployed because of the source of the fire at the ATM and the smoke. A large-scale manhunt by the St. Gallen and Thurgau cantonal police has so far been unsuccessful.
Due to their responsibility for explosives offenses, the investigations are being conducted by the St. Gallen cantonal police and the Federal Police fedpol under the direction of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland.
