An attacker has killed at least two people and injured several others in a restaurant in the southern Turkish province of Mersin. According to the state news agency Anadolu, the unidentified man shot indiscriminately and then fled. The background was initially unclear.

The newspaper "Cumhuriyet" reported a total of four dead and eight injured. The attacker had shot the owner of the restaurant and an employee, and had also killed two other people during his escape. The police are working to catch the perpetrator. No official statement was initially available.
