Animals Baby lion dies after just four weeks at Walter Zoo in Gossau SG

The lion born at Walter Zoo in Gossau, St. Gallen, at the beginning of October is dead. The zoo announced this on Facebook on Thursday evening. It was found lifeless in the enclosure in the morning.

According to initial findings, the mother had suddenly changed her behavior over the course of the weeks and was no longer nursing the cub sufficiently, the zoo wrote. As the mother had shown signs of being ready to mate, a hormonal change may have been the cause. What exactly triggered this change probably remains a mystery of nature.
