For example, it turned out that the oven house on display from the canton of Fribourg was not built around 1800, but 200 years earlier. According to Thursday's press release, the knowledge gained is freely available to interested parties in the open-air museum's web store.
The foundation board of the open-air museum approved the building documentation project in 2016. The starting point for the investigations was documentation of the so-called translocations, i.e. the dismantling and reconstruction of the historic buildings. As there were gaps in the knowledge of many buildings, they were examined with regard to their construction, ownership, occupancy and usage history.
More than one hundred historic residential and farm buildings from all parts of Switzerland are on display at the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum.
