If the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is held in Basel in 2025, the government of the canton of Baselland does not want to contribute financially. However, if the event were to take place in the St. Jakobshalle, i.e. on Basel-Landschaft soil, the canton would be responsible for security, transport and logistics, as the government announced in an interpellation response on Wednesday.

Talks and negotiations with the relevant authorities are already underway. The canton of Baselland would also be responsible for the necessary permits if the event were to be held in the hall. The government is prepared to support the bid in the areas mentioned, according to the response to the interpellation by Miriam Locher (SP).
The Basel-Stadt government is delighted that Basel-Stadt is bidding to host the ESC. The trinational region is the "perfect location for the next staging of the world's largest music event", it continues.
The government of the canton of Basel-Stadt announced on June 5 that it would be submitting a bid to host the ESC 2025. In addition to the St. Jakobshalle, the canton also wants to examine the St. Jakob-Park football stadium as a location. In this case, the Joggeli would have to be provided with a temporary roof. In addition to Basel, Zurich, Bern and Geneva have also expressed an interest in hosting the event. SRG will announce its decision at the end of August.
