Beatles legend Paul McCartney has appeared as a star guest on the latest edition of Stephen Colbert's US late-night show. The 83-year-old told the late-night talker: "I was just in the neighborhood. I had a few errands to run."
He chatted with Colbert about past performances, then things got a bit political. McCartney said in response to Colbert's question about how the Brit had perceived America decades ago during performances: "As the land of freedom, the greatest democracy." He added - "hopefully it still is."
Colbert took over the "Late Show" in 2015 from David Letterman, who had started it in 1993. Last summer, TV broadcaster CBS surprisingly announced that it was canceling the show, officially for "purely financial reasons". Industry experts suspect that the broadcaster acted out of consideration for US President Donald Trump, who was repeatedly sharply criticized on the show.
