No planes can take off from Berlin Airport this morning due to ice.

"There are currently no take-offs at BER Airport due to the weather conditions," said a spokeswoman. Due to rapidly freezing rain, it is currently not possible to de-ice the aircraft.

Only take-offs are currently affected by this; aircraft in the air are currently able to land at BER. It is not yet clear how long aircraft will be unable to take off from the airport. Passengers should expect flight cancellations and massive delays and are asked to check their flight status with the airlines. The airport's website shows that around a dozen flights had been canceled by midday.

The German Weather Service warns of a high risk of slippery conditions in Berlin due to freezing rain and ice.
