On Friday, the Bern-Mittelland Regional Court sentenced a 39-year-old Chinese man to 7.5 years' imprisonment for human trafficking and promoting prostitution. The man will also be deported from the country for 13 years.

The court of first instance considered it proven that the accused lured Chinese migrant workers to Switzerland as "massage girls" between 2018 and 2021 under false promises. Once here, they then had to serve clients with sometimes risky sexual practices.

The accused emphasized in court that he only took the women to the apartments rented for the business. There they could then decide on what terms they wanted to offer their services.

The court did not believe him. It considered the elements of the crime to be fulfilled in the ten cases charged and in the more than 60 attempted acts.
